Create and Compare Proxy Values

With LiveCompare Workflow actions (Create & Compare Proxy values) you can compare a current SAP system to an unavailable SAP system. Here's how it works:

Create Proxy Values actions compute hash values for a specified list of SAP objects retrieved from an RFC Destination. The hash values may be written to an External Data Source, and used by the Compare Proxy Objects action to compare a list of objects where only one SAP system is available.

At the end of last year we had to compare two identical SAP systems. Piece of cake with Live compare, IF you have BOTH SYSTEMS ONLINE!

We were doing a implementation test over one server in order to configure it and tweak it up to the point to be ready to go live. This was to find any faults and holes one week before the real go live. So we wanted to compare the final state of our almost-to-production system with the one that was going to production but we didn't had the physical server to keep the test system alive so the test and production servers were the same, psychically speaking.

I went to Live compare support and they told: "why don't you take a picture of that test system before you roll back and start working on that production system?". I was like "???".

So they offer me the solution of create a proxy made out of the hash of all the information at a current time and save it externally and then, after the production system was ready to go live, create another proxy with the same data in order to compare both proxy hashes and see if everything was the same.

This is: take a picture of how it was, take a picture of how is right know and compare if there are any differences.

I'll say is a very helpful tool if you have a constraint in servers availability or even time. By far make a proxy is faster than go and do the entire comparison system vs system. Maybe you will only get a binary answer if EVERYTHING is the SAME, but is faster than put the server to compare all night to find out that everything was the same.

I may suggest that the proxy work-flow will be better or easier if you were able to select several sap tables and get a single hash for each one but for our hurry it work swiftly.

@zerkhufu - thanks for commenting on this functionality.  Another place we use it is in a special set of SAP upgrade analysis workflows.  They're designed for use by customers that don't yet have a reference to-be system up and running.  The workflows compare the customer's live as-is system with our "proxy" ECC 6.0 environment.
